Phnom Penh Capital Administration is Ready to Ensure Safety During the KNY

PHNOM PENH: The Phnom Penh Capital Administration has prepared a plan to ensure the safety of the people during the upcoming Khmer New Year on 14-16 April 2022, to allow all to have a warm, happy and orderly visit to the city.

Speaking at the meeting of the Phnom Penh Municipal Unity Command, the Deputy Commissioner General and Commissioner of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, Lt. Gen. Sar Thet, said that the joint police force is ready to be stationed at many important targets in Phnom Penh, especially in the areas near pagodas and in the Wat Phnom area, which is the main appointed venue in the city for Khmer New Year celebrations. These safety preparations are being made to ensure public order and social security over the holiday, to make sure everyone can enjoy their time in Phnom Penh.

The extra precautionary measures being taken are to increase the effectiveness of preventing disturbing activities that can pose a threat at places like pagodas, entertainment venues, resorts, where there will be many people, and including gatherings on the main streets of Phnom Penh.

He confirmed that the forces of all divisions will be mobilized at full capacity in designated shifts. He said there was a division of forces according to the targets in shifts, especially at night, a thorough inspection and a supply of food to ensure efficient operation.

The Lt. Gen. also added that a total of 564 joint forces are to be distributed to a target of 150 pagodas every day and night, especially around the Wat Phnom area, which is the site of Phnom Penh's Sangkran celebrations. Due to the location, a lot of people are expected to visit. In addition, all forces will be involved in preventing water spraying at entertainment venues as recommended by the Governor of Phnom Penh, Khuong Sreng, because it poses a high risk of transmission of Covid-19 and also causes various dangers, especially affecting the Khmer tradition.

The Phnom Penh Capital Administration is ready to host the New Year Sangkran at Wat Phnom historical site, and all 150 pagodas throughout Phnom Penh are ready to welcome the New Year Angel, enjoy entertain, dance, sing, and play Khmer traditional games.

Please be informed that on the occasion of the Khmer National New Year from 14-16 April 2022, Phnom Penh Capital Administration, in addition to organizing security, order and entertainment, will also decorate the city and colorfully light up the street, especially around Wat Phnom, to welcome tourists to visit and celebrate the New Year.
